With the Pixel 8, Google could get closer to Apple in some respects; the new devices will start in autumn 2023.
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the smartphone generation with Google’s Tensor chipset, will follow in 2023. With the Pixel 6 series, Google has laid the foundation for a new era. The Tensor processor, new screen sizes and significantly more smart functions have combined to create completely new Google phones.
After the Pixel 7 series was able to underpin the positive first impressions , the popularity of Google cell phones has increased extremely in some markets , the 2023 generation should be different and of course even better. Here you will find all the news about the Pixel 8 series.

Google is preparing new AI services (06/08/2023)
In the run-up to Android 14 and Pixel 8, new “AI Services” are appearing that are casting their shadows. Google is very likely to launch new AI features with the Pixel 8 series.
Wireless charging no progress, but Tensor G3 already (06/03/2023)
At least in the Pixel 8, there should be no better wireless charging , as confirmed by the first official bodies. It is different with the Tensor G3 chipset, which will bring many changes to the processor . A new layout for the processor cores, a new generation of processor cores and a lot more.
Curious sensor can measure body temperature (05/18/2023)
A short demo video surfaced many months before launch . In it we see the Pixel 8 Pro and a new sensor that can also measure body temperature via the forehead. This is extremely curious and raises a number of questions.
New camera sensors, Ultra HDR (04/24/2023)
Google will probably not take the camera sensors used a third time and is relying on a newer generation. Probably again on hardware from Samsung , but thanks to the new Android 14 software, it should be capable of Ultra HDR, for example.
Images show design of Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 (03/15/23)
There are usually a lot of leaks at Google and so it is with the Pixel 8, which can now be seen in pictures many months before the market launch . There are therefore also the dimensions (162.6 × 76.5 × 8.7 mm) and a look at another sensor in the camera bar and the flat display.
Just a few hours later there was also a leak for the regular Pixel 8 , which is also supposed to get a smaller display and will look much more like its big brother.
Tensor G3 probably produced by Samsung in the newer process (03/14/23)
It seems certain Samsung is producing the new Tensor G3 chipset for Google. Which would also mean that we can’t expect a huge jump in gaming performance and battery life. Or?
Completely new information says that Samsung is launching its 4nm process in a new generation and has thus been able to implement further improvements. The latest pixel generation benefits from this, at least in theory, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Rumor on size: new model to shrink again (12/22/22)
We reported to you about the entire pixel strategy until 2025 . Much of this sounds plausible, but some is still a long way off. However, 2023 and the smartphone models intended for it are much closer. It said in the detailed report that Google wants to take a further downsizing course with the Pixel 8. It is said to have a smaller display and body than the current Pixel 7.
There shouldn’t be any changes to the Pixel 8 Pro, but its little brother will probably be much more compact. Depending on how much Google shrinks the smartphone, it could get closer to the competition and older devices. With the iPhone 14, for example, Apple still offers a very compact base for its cell phones. The Pixel 5 was Google’s last “small” device.
Even the Pixel 7 is still a huge difference from the then Pixel 5:
An even smaller base model would not be the only point that Google will probably copy from Apple in the near future .
New camera with “staggered HDR”? (12/20/22)
The new Pixel 8 phones will probably have “staggered HDR“. Since the camera sensor of the Pixel 7 series cannot do this, an upgrade in the hardware of the Pixel 8 smartphones can be expected. The somewhat newer GN2 sensor from Samsung (also 50 MP) could be installed, the GN1 sensor is currently in the Pixel 7 cell phones.
The new feature makes it possible for the same pixels to record different exposures at the same time. Unlike conventional HDR, this is possible with significantly less delay. This allows even better photos that are created faster and can be processed better by the algorithms.
Better fingerprint sensor discovered (10/27/22)
Google is testing an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for 2023 smartphones, as known from Samsung’s top models, for example. Such a module would react much faster and would be less susceptible to disruptive factors such as moisture.
Data sheet: This is in the Google Pixel 8 (Pro)
This is what we know so far about the key technical data:
Pixel 8 with 6.16″ display (flat)
Pixel 8 Pro with 6.7″ display (flat)
Google Tensor G3 chipset, 4nm
Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
New camera sensor with more HDR capabilities, temperature sensor (infrared?)
UWB (Pixel 8 Pro)
Android 14 out of the box
Pixel 8 dimensions: 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm
Pixel 8 Pro dimensions: 162.6 x 76.5 x 8.7 mm
questions and answers
When will the Pixel 8 be out?
Google has scheduled the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for fall 2023. You will start with Android 14.
How much does the Pixel 8 cost?
Due to the economic situation, a price increase is more realistic than ever this time, 699 euros could be the starting price.
Which chipset is in it?
The new Tensor G3, which Google improves in many respects. The basis still comes from Samsung.
