Android manufacturer from the very beginning is back with a new cell phone

Until a few years ago, the smartphones from this manufacturer were legendary and among the best on the market. But then he disappeared from the scene. Now you’re back with a new phone. Can the comeback succeed?

It’s about HTC – the Android manufacturer par excellence. In the fall of 2008, the world’s first Android cell phone was launched. Success was later celebrated with the HTC Desire and HTC One series. With its high-quality metal body and stereo speakers, the HTC One M7 was one of the most sought-after Android phones of its time. But a few years ago it became quiet about the former flagship manufacturer.

HTC IS ATTEMPTING A COMEBACK

Experimental projects such as the Facebook phone HTC First or a cell phone with a crypto wallet, the Exodus 1s, were still tried . But these projects were not successful. Now they are back with a new smartphone: the HTC U23 Pro .

The smartphone offers a 6.7-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hertz and Gorilla Glass Victus. Special features include a fingerprint sensor in the power button and a headphone jack. This has become a rarity in recent years.

NEW CELL PHONE: HTC U23 PRO PRESENTED

HTC uses a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor in the smartphone. The mid-range chip, which is around a year old, is also found in the Xiaomi 13 Lite and is comparable to Google’s Tensor G1 chip from the Pixel 6 in terms of performance . Together with 12 gigabytes of RAM, the smartphone should have a performance that is suitable for everyday use, but not outstanding. The internal memory is 256 gigabytes and can be expanded with a microSD card .

On the back, HTC has given the cell phone a quad camera with a 108-megapixel main sensor including optical image stabilization . There is also an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera and a depth sensor. A 32-megapixel camera is installed at the front for selfies and the like.

The battery is below average with 4,600 mAh. It is charged with a cable with up to 30 watts and wirelessly with a maximum of 15 watts. Reverse wireless charging of accessories is also supported.

WILL HTC FIND ITS WAY BACK TO ITS FORMER GLORY?

The HTC U23 Pro is available for pre-order now in black and white colors and will start shipping on June 5th. In terms of price, HTC demands 549 euros for the new cell phone. That’s quite a lot. Xiaomi charges less than 400 euros for the similarly equipped Xiaomi 13 Lite .

So it remains questionable whether HTC will succeed in making a comeback. A comeback had already been announced in 2019 and they wanted to focus on the premium market again. However, thus far, no significant progress or outcomes have materialized.
